Theatre Education Program (TEP) Friday & Saturday Sessions

Smithtown Performing Arts Council once again brings you our 2019 – 2020 Theatre classes. On Fridays and Saturdays, beginning in September we will be holding an assortment of classes in each discipline mentioned below. Enroll your child in one, two, or multiple classes. Classes run throughout the year. (see class dates listed below). The last day of class will be a showcase for family who wish to attend. As always our programs are designed to give all students, novices and seasoned performers alike, the opportunity to participate in the theater experience. The objective of each class is to give the student a creative, collaborative atmosphere that fosters their self-esteem and communication skills. The following are our class descriptions and class schedule:

Friday Sessions

Voice:
Grades 1-4: 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Cost: $350 / Member: $315
Voice classes will concentrate on healthy vocal technique, audition preparation and performance, and creating a character and telling a story through song. Students will leave the class with sheet music and preparation for a variety of song cuts that can be used for musical theater auditions. The final showcase will include solo, duet, and group performances. The focus of these performances will be on vocal technique, conveying character and story, and group harmonization..

Acting:
Grades 1-4: 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Grades 5-8: 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Cost: $350 / Member: $315
Using a variety of exercises and activities, students will explore foundational principles and techniques employed by stage actors. Concepts covered will include teamwork, character development, using movement to tell a story, vocal projection and articulation, stage directions, listening and reacting in a scene, and motivation behind actions. In the second half of the year, this knowledge will be applied in scene and/or monologue work, which will be presented at the final showcase.

Voice:
Grades: 5-8: 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Musical Theatre Production
Grades: 1-3: 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Cost: $450 / Member: $405
Show: Dinostars

Experience what it is like to be cast in a full scale musical production! Students in this class will learn theater vocabulary, work on acting skills, and develop proper singing technique while working towards a final performance of DINOSTARS. An audition workshop will be held during the first two classes to assign roles and lines. Materials will be supplied. Teachers will assign roles based on students’ ability to take direction, work with other students, and speak in a loud, clear voice.

Saturday Sessions

Musical Theatre Production
Grades 4-6: 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM / Show: A Year With Frot & Toad
Grades 9-12: 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM / Show: Songs For A New World
Cost: $450 / Member: $405
Experience what it is like to be cast in a full scale musical production! Students in this class will learn theater vocabulary, work on acting skills, and develop proper singing technique while working towards a final performance of A Year With Frog & Toad or Songs For a New World. Auditions for specific roles will be held on the first day of class. An audition workshop will be held during the first two classes to assign roles. Audition material will be supplied. Teachers will cast students in roles according to their ability to read, sing, dance, take direction, and work with other students.

Advanced Acting
Grades 9-12: 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM
Cost: $350 / Member: $315
This advanced course is geared toward students who are interested in learning about acting on a professional level. Using the voice and the body, it combines baseline actor training with more advanced techniques. Coursework will include both monologues and scenes. Students will receive feedback from the instructor, helping them rehearse productively and relate to their fellow actors. Classes will include warm-ups, acting exercises, group, and individual work in a friendly but formal setting.

Musical Theatre Dance
Grades 1-4: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Cost: $350 / Member: $315
This fun and exciting class will introduce young dancers to the beginning steps of musical theater-style jazz. Dancers will learn routines set to Broadway music while developing the ability to perform fundamental dance steps, listen and follow directions, and retain choreography. Students will increase their flexibility and endurance, learn standard musical theater dance vocabulary, and most importantly – have fun!

Acting
Grades 1-4: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
Cost: $350 / Member: $315

Glee
Grades 5-8: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
Cost: $350 / Member: $315
Students in this class will learn, polish, and perform popular songs in the style they have seen in movies such as Pitch Perfect. Participants will explore a variety of rock and pop arrangements while learning to balance and blend their voices in an a capella style group. This class will improve skills in harmonizing, reading music, intonation, listening, rhythm, and heathy vocal technique. The final performance will include choreography to bring each song to life in an innovative way.

Pricing

We are offering a choice of payment options to all participants. You can pay in full at time of registration or you can select our payment plan at an additional charge of $5.00
per payment. Our payment plan calls for payment of 50% of the total due at the time of registration and the succeeding 6 payments are due the 1st of each month thereafter. Beginning
October 1, 2019 through March 1, 2020. (Failure to make timely payments will prohibit your child from continued participation in their classes). Payment plans can only be done via
‘DIRECT PAY’ – Smithtown Performing Arts Center will arrange to have your monthly payments applied to your Credit/Debit Card. Simply sign the Credit/Debit Agreement on the registration
form and your monthly payments will be automatically applied to your Credit/Debit Card. Please Note: You are registering your child for the full year- by registering you secure a space
for your child for the full year, thus prohibiting us from enrolling another child. You are required to pay the fee for the entire year whether or not your child attends for the full year.
THERE ARE NO REFUNDS FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER.

No make-ups or credit will be available for missed classes (No Exceptions)
